September/October
2018 issue of Oracle
Magazine. I called our July/August issue “The Autonomous Issue,“ because
it covered the latest Oracle Cloud Platform autonomous services and focused on
the self-securing aspect of autonomous. But that autonomous label absolutely
describes this issue too. To avoid confusion, let's call September/October “The
Autonomous In Action Issue,“ because it covers the latest Oracle
autonomous service announcement and goes deeper into what the self-driving
power of autonomous means to the business, data experts, developers, and more.
This issue's
cover story
explores Oracle Cloud Platform autonomous services, Oracle Autonomous Database
Cloud, and in particular, the availability of Oracle Autonomous Transaction
Cloud Service. The article describes the value of autonomous, from 99.995%
uptime and automatic patching to lower operating and labor costs and
“nothing-to-learn” administration.
In Autonomous
is Easy, Oracle Executive Vice President Amit Zavery describes the common
features and strategies for Oracle Cloud Platform autonomous services and calls
out some specific machine-learning-powered features in different Oracle
services. In Development
Opens Up, Mike Hichwa, vice president of software development at Oracle,
talks about database development, Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud, open source
support in Oracle Database, and more. And for some examples of new
opportunities for DBAs in the autonomous database world, read longtime Oracle
contributor Jeff Erickson's latest column, Hey,
Data Experts: Voice Assistants Are Calling Your Name.
