Expose your data as an APIs with Oracle REST Data
Services (ENG)
Vinay Kumar, Oracle ACE. Technology evangelist.
TOPIC: APIs
"The speaker covers the development of REST APIs
with Oracle REST DATA services. He explains in detail overview of ORDS.
Introduction of REST APIs. How to make secure APIs with ORDS and exposing
Oracle relational database to JSON and build user interface With Oracle JET.
Explanation of basic authentication and OAuth security technique to enable
security in APIs. Explain building quick UI using Oracle JET on REST APIs from
Database.
11:00 – 11: 30 Networking
Coffee and Wind Flighting Exhibition and visit to exhibitors.
11:30 – 12:10
Database Copy Data Management with Ansible (ENG)
Ron Ekins, Oracle ACE. Member of the UKOUG Database Server SIG committee
TOPIC: Database Automation
In this session Ron will share how Ansible can be used
to reduce time to market, improve quality and increase development productivity
by automating Database cloning with DevOPS processes and Open Source software,
Ron will share code examples and deliver live demonstrations throughout the
presentation.
12:15 – 12:55
Extending SOA with Oracle API Platform cloud service (ENG)
Vinay Kumar, Oracle ACE. Technology evangelist.
TOPIC: API, Middleware
Organizations are implementing SOA architecture. In
these days to achieve digital transformation, there is another SOA front
requires all enterprises, i.e. API management. To interact with Cloud
application, Business to business and IOT as well, there is a big need to APIs.
To manage these APIs, we need to API management. The session would be about the
introduction of a new front of SOA- API management. Why we need to a different
segment of SOA. Speaker explains components of APIs management and use of it.
Building API design with Apiary and testing it. How to generate SDK in the
different languages. The audience will learn about Oracle API management and
design of API management with Oracle service bus.
13:00 – 13:40
Oracle Security for DBAs and Developers (ENG)
Daniel Morgan, Vice President
of the Twin Cities Oracle Users Group
TOPIC: Oracle Data and Database
Security
Everyone should know that the Oracle database contains
more built-in security functionality than all of the other major commercial
database products combined. They should also know that most of these security
features are disabled by default. Knowledge of security tools that require
additional licensing such as Database Vault, Database Firewall, TDE, and Audit
Vault are important but equally important is the many capabilities included in
the default license that can harden a database against attack.
13:40 – 14:10 Flighting
Training for all flyers (Track B – Training in English)
Formación para voladores (Track A – Training
en Español)
14:10 – 15:30 Lunch and
visit to exhibitors.
No olvides ver las demos de los expositors.
15:30 – 16:10
VBCS to extend your applications (ENG)
Debra Lilley ,
Oracle ACE Director. VP Certus Cloud Services
TOPIC: Cloud
VBCS is part of the
#PaaS4SaaS portfolio. It works really well to extend Cloud applications but
equally good for any applications. In ‘classic’ mode it is low code but also
the new visual options are for the dedicated developer. This presentation will
look at the concepts, why and how you would use it in the Cloud Apps world
including demo of classic mode to build extension, run it and a mobile app to
finish off with
16:15 – 16:55
HugePages - what, why and how (ESP)
Jose Rodriguez, Project engineer at Pythian
TOPIC: HugePages for Oracle databases
We live in the era of big
servers with lots of relatively cheap resources like RAM and disk being thrown
in with shovels. But most of the existing software is not ready out of the box
to handle the growth that the servers are experiencing, hence come new issues
to deal with. With huge amounts of memory in today's systems, properly handling
this critical resource becomes paramount to avoid performance issues. This
presentation will comment on the overhead of managing RAM and how this grows
with the size of the memory chips. Most default operating system configurations
still use small page sizes which makes having more RAM not a big advantage but,
sometimes, a source of issues. We will go back to the basics of HugePages: what
they are, why should we be using them and how do we take advantage of the
feature. Aiming to have DBAs refreshing their knowledge of this feature and put
it to work for them.We will also see some calculations on the impact of not
using HugePages and some real-life situations where not having HugePages in
place was the hidden root cause of some issues.
17:00 – 17:30 Networking
Coffee and visit to exhibitors.
17:30 –

Database Block Checking - The Unknown Truth (ESP)
David Loinaz, Database engineer and Consultant for Accenture & Gabriel Alonso,
Infrastructure Manager, Accenture Enkitec Group
TOPIC:
Database Block Checking - The Unknown Truth
DBAs are always concerned
about the performance impact of parameters like db_block_checksum or
db_block_checking. Does it make sense to add an overhead in database block
processing when the impact could average 10% and be even higher? In addition,
if you have never faced a corruption and you have your disks mirrored and you
have a good database backup strategy, why should you need to set these kind of
parameters that will impact your performance? Come and see why! Presentation
will include.
18:10 – 18:45
Using JSON in Oracle (ENG)
Neil Chandler, Oracle ACE Director. Independent Consultant and Board
member of the UKOUG
TOPIC: Database
"JSON is frequently used in schemaless applications to allow rapid
reaction to changing application requirements. It is commonly stored in NOSQL
databases. So why would you store it in Oracle? What advantages does this
bring, and what can we do to leverage the power of Oracle to enhance the
durability, transactionality and support for JSON schemas in the database. I
will also talk about some of the benefits and power of using JSON over a
traditional relation model and see how JSON in Oracle can be used with relation
data to support complex analysis and reporting. "
